Physical and chemical tagging methods for the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea)

چکیده
The sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus (Lamarck, 1816) (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) is an important economic resource in Europe, but intense harvesting has led to the collapse of several natural populations. Echinoculture, associated with restocking and stock enhancement practices, alternative this problem. In these procedures, reliable individual identification through tagging a valuable source information. However, very few studies address effect methods on P. marine invertebrates still presents challenges: decreased growth, high mortality rates low tag retention rates. Under laboratory conditions, present study evaluated effectiveness three (passive integrated transponders [PIT-tags], coded wire tags [CWTs] calcein) wild for 60 days terms total wet weight, weight gain (mg ind.−1 day−1), survival retention. final was significantly higher untagged (control) group than PIT-tagged group. Survival rate 100% PIT-tag, calcein control groups, 97% CWT Tag differed according method: group, 76.7% PIT-tag 38.0%

Physical mapping of the 5S rRNA in the common sea urchin, Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea), by in situ hybridization.
Locations of the 5S rRNA genes (rDNA) are usually considered to be helpful, as generally invariable chromosome markers, especially if chromosome banding is not possible. The genes have been defined in about 90 invertebrate species, and were found linked to other multigene families in genomes of some nematodes and arthropods (Drouin and Moniz de Sa, 1995; Barzotti et al., 2000). They were also f...
متن کاملToxicity of tributyltin and triphenyltin to early life-stages of Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea).
Sperm cell and embryo toxicity tests using the Mediterranean sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus were performed to assess the toxicity of tributyltin chloride, bis(tributyltin)oxide, triphenyltin acetate, and triphenyltin hydroxide. Toxicity values (mean effective concentration [EC50]) ranged from 2.97 to 18.5 microg/L for sperm cells and from 1.11 to 2.62 microg/L for embryos. For sperm cells, th...
متن کاملMechanical Properties of the Compass Depressors of the Sea-Urchin Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata, Echinoidea) and the Effects of Enzymes, Neurotransmitters and Synthetic Tensilin-Like Protein
The compass depressors (CDs) of the sea-urchin lantern are ligaments consisting mainly of discontinuous collagen fibrils associated with a small population of myocytes. They are mutable collagenous structures, which can change their mechanical properties rapidly and reversibly under nervous control. The aims of this investigation were to characterise the baseline (i.e. unmanipulated) static mec...
متن کاملSperm cell toxicity test using sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus lamarck (Echinodermata: Echinoidea): sensitivity and discriminatory ability toward anionic and nonionic surfactants.
A reliable sperm cell toxicity test procedure has been developed for the Mediterranean sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. The sensitivity and discriminatory ability of the test were investigated with regard to surfactants and their biotransformation products. Aromatic and aliphatic surfactants of anionic (linear alkylbenzene sulfonates [LAS]) and nonionic (alcohol polyethoxylates [AE] and nonylp...
متن کاملReproductive biology of Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) in two contrasting habitats of northernTunisia (south-east Mediterranean)
The reproductive strategies of the sea urchin, Paracentrotus lividus, was studied in the Bay of Tunis. Samples were collected monthly, from September 1993 to August 1995, in two sites which differ in their marine vegetation and their exposure to wave action. Histological examination demonstrated a cycle of gametogenesis with six reproductive stages and a main breeding period occurring between A...
